SINCE 1929
Carey College, Colombo (also known as Carey Baptist College), is a private school for boys in Sri Lanka. It was founded in 1914 by Baptist missionaries and offers primary and secondary education. The college started by Rev H.J Charter and one of the oldest private school in Colombo.
The Carey College Old Boys’ Union was formed in the year 1929. Since then, the Union has been closely associated with the school and its development. The OBU is well established & having its office inside the college premises. The eminent executive committee lead by Mr. Mervyn Ponniah (2022) who is a visionary with innovative ideas to grow the college reputation & address any concerns for college development & collectively finding solutions with the support of college old boys, School management & the Baptist Society (Baptist Sangamaya).
OBU Annual Program of Events.
1. Past vs Present Boys Cricket match played for the C.M. Vasa Challenge Trophy.
2. Members Outing - A day of fun and frolic for the members and their families
3. Members Get-Together: A program for members and members of the College staff to meet and socialize.
4. Fund Raiser – a varied program which may include a Sing-along, Dinner Dance, Walk, Musical show, etc. to raise funds for Its activities.

Dr. Jeganathan Addresses Carey College OBU
Dr. Benjamin Jeganathan, the newly appointed Principal of Carey College, addressed the Old Boys’ Union and stated that Old Boys are one of the college’s key stakeholders.
He emphasized that Carey College, a pioneering institution in social mobility since 1914, should continue to advance education and help take Sri Lanka to the next level. He noted that the term “Old Boy” is unique to Sri Lanka, and compared to many other countries, Sri Lankan past pupils show exceptional loyalty to their alma mater and actively repay their debt to the school.
Dr. Jeganathan announced that vacancies for teachers of English, Chemistry, Economics, Business Studies, and Accounting have been filled. College teachers have also volunteered to cover Sinhala and History. He highlighted the need to appoint Headmasters for the Upper School and the Edexcel Section, along with an HR Manager.
Drawing on over 29 years of experience as Secretary of St. Xavier’s College, Dr. Jeganathan urged Carey College Old Boys to strengthen bonds among members and induct younger members. He called for updating the college website, establishing a skills centre and restructuring sports including Cricket, Rugby, Boxing, Basketball, Soccer, Table Tennis, and Cadetting. He also stressed reviving the Interact Club, Western Band, and other clubs and societies.
He reported that a committee of sectional heads has been formed to address existing anomalies and introduce rules and regulations to improve the teaching-learning process. He also plans to conduct workshops and seminars for both teachers and students.

It will be a new experience to every one of us and as the newly elected President in 2022 I am honored to welcome everyone on board on this new exciting journey. I am sure all Careyites will be pleased to be a part of this dynamic path and will play a positive role to assist us in our quest to further improve the standard of education and sports.
Our desire is to upload past memories of our college life especially the OBU activities and all current / future projects. The college has a rich heritage of history and we are proud of studying at such a college and I believe that all Careyites will be happy to be updated at regular intervals through this website. All overseas alumni can be easily connected with us and we have also created a convenient path to become an OBU member online.
